Choosing the name of a reading collective takes a lot of thought and far too much time. We wanted something meaningful but simple. Impactful, but not overdone. Symbolic but relevant.
As authors, we’ve been intentional about the type of stories we write and read. We’ve always supported each other and have done some of our best work while riding the wave of positive creative energy other like-minded women generate.
Those are the things we homed in on when it came to choosing our name.
In Greek mythology, the Iris is associated with communication and new endeavors. The Ivy, used in poets’ crowns, is strongly connected with female energy. The ivy’s act of climbing symbolizes attachment and striving for support. With the iris and the ivy, we are joining forces to create a vibrant network of supportive women who are passionate about reading and promoting works of contemporary fiction written by and for women.
One of the most exciting parts of this community is the way we get to build it together. And we hope that you’ll find yourself at home in our little neck of the woods.
